Allow FET researchers to understand the value of the technology developed in the research phase, giving them tools and services to support them in the development and dissemination of results. BRIEFING wants to offer targeted services to stimulate and support researchers to go beyond the boundaries of pure research, landing their technology on the market.



BRIEFING facilitates the translation of European research of excellence into potential tangible innovations, capable of contributing to the renewal, growth and competitiveness of Europe. BRIEFING uses different ways to take advantage of FET research by supporting researchers in exploring innovations and promoting the connection between research and the business world. For this reason, the project is based on a customized offer for researchers through different tools and services that allow a personalized approach to the needs of each stakeholder. To ensure this, support services to FET researchers will be tailored to individual questions and including business and communication training but also combining tools and events, all administered through an online platform.


BRIEFING, starting from the needs of the researchers, creates a marketplace where technologies, ideas and people meet. It enhances interaction and mutual understanding between various stakeholders – potential users, technology leaders, technology transfer organisations, entrepreneurs, investors – through professional facilitation and training. By doing so, it leverages the market uptake of FET experimenting new output, often different from FET world.


CILAB participates in the project by supporting the other partners and dealing with the issue of discovering innovation opportunities. Our goal is to generate a framework to guide researchers in developing a greater understanding of the commercial potential of their technologies. This objective therefore aims to create awareness of the commercialization degrees of specific technologies. To succeed in this we first need to analyze and understand the variables that must be taken into consideration to evaluate the saleability of a technology. Subsequently it is necessary to examine case studies and best of successful FET project to further understand how to move in this world. This two moment gives birth to a framework that leads researchers and it is tested on real FET projects through a pilot.


The literature review starts by understanding the meaning of the term “technology potential” and “technology commercialization”. The literature review is addressed using the TEN TYPE OF INNOVATION model. This helps to extract a series of variables aimed at innovation so to understand which are the one that need to be considered in the technology commercialization. After an analysis of the results, the most promising key words emerged are selected to create the scientific framework. These variables are analyzed in relation to FET projects, through a questionnaire. This tool aims to understand how these variables have been fundamental in the development of FET projects completed or close to the end, and at the same time investigates possible critical issues encountered during the project. Starting from the results of this questionnaire, a series of direct interviews are developed to better investigate the topics. The whole process therefore leads to an understanding of the needs of researchers and the production of personalized services aimed at supporting researchers to better communicate the value of their results and to develop their ideas to the fullest.
